Since we got Cleo she has given us a lot of joy, but we have also poured an insane amount of money into her just to keep her on the road. And this last year has not been good for her. We’ve used her very little as she’s been parked in a parking house rather far away from us and we really don’t need a car that much. Just standing there, in that somewhat damp place, has proven less than ideal and has caused some major problems.
No matter what we do, we will not be able to bring her back to Vienna this week. She needs major welding, new brakes, new shock absorbers and a few minor things. And we’re running out of time.
To be honest, it is not fair of us to even keep her as we’re such dunces when it comes to cars. I’m bad enough — at least I know how to drive them — but time has come for me to accept that Kevin will not get as much as a driving licence, let alone learn anything about basic car maintenance. I think the time has come to throw in the towel and accept that where car ownership is concerned, we’re total failures.
I have mentioned the possibility of selling her before, especially when we moved to Vienna and she was left with a friend in London for well over a year. But as this is about emotions and not about sense, our sentimentality about her won and we chose to pour more money into keeping her instead.
Here comes the public declaration: we’re idiots.
Christ, I’m blubbering again.
And my hair looks stupid. Damned mullet.
