Got to apologise — once again — for my sporadic blogging. As you may have guessed, Orion is well again so the urgency of reporting about him is pretty much gone. Of course, “well” is always relative for a dog his age. He has a prolapse which affects his back legs and makes him wobbly, but when we’re out he still runs around a lot and playing fetch always seems to make him forget all about it. Getting his prolapse sorted out is not an option. That is an even more expensive opeartion than the bloat, and with only a 50% chance of any improvement at all. So we have decided that when he can no longer walk and gets no more joy out of life, we will let him go. For now, he is very happy with us and his new life. He gets a little cuddlier each day, loves his mum and dad, seems to love Mischa too in some strange way — as if Mischa is his security blanket — enjoys being sociable with other dogs and no longer minds strangers too much. He is, in short, a pretty normal dog.
Orion aside: I am presently in Tallinn with work, spending the weekend attending our editorial board meeting. It’s one of the perks of the job. It’s a little bit of a shame that most of our time goes into the board meeting itself — there is virtually no time to sightsee and especially now in October it gets dark early so there is little chance of taking pictures while there is daylight. And that is a shame since this is likely to be the last time we have the board meeting here. Our Estonian boardmember is stepping down after this meeting and that means no more Tallinn for us.
I’ve tried to make the most of it by sneaking off after lunch a little early to use the waning light and take pictures of the wonderful wooden buildings in the neighbourhood. Two of my favourites are up for sale and oh, how I wish I could buy one of them! But I will never have enough money for such a building, let alone restoring and maintaining it. I’ll try to post some of the pictures when I get back to Vienna.
It was a little sad leaving Vienna this time. I left behind a loving husband and two dogs: Orion looked confused and upset as I packed, Mischa got even more depressed than he is naturally. So at least it will be great to come back home and cuddle them all! Though… it has been nice getting rid of some of the dog hair…

There’s plenty of doghair in the flat again, though I hoovered last Friday. So don’t worry about it. ;o)
